A Registration Certificate or RC, also known as an RC book, is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of the state where the vehicle is registered. Documents Required to Apply for an RC of a New Vehicle

To apply for a new vehicle RC, the following documents are needed:

  • Form 21: Sales certificate

The following documents are required to apply for a duplicate RC book online:

How Long Is an RC Valid?
In Delhi-NCR, the RC of a petrol vehicle is valid for 15 years and that of a diesel vehicle for 10 years. It cannot be renewed further. However, in other states and UTs, the RC for conventional vehicles (petrol and diesel) is valid for 15 years and can be renewed every five years if the vehicle passes the fitness test. The RC of an electric vehicle is also valid for 15 years, but it needs to be renewed every five years.
