How to Apply for an RC for a New Vehicle in Tamil Nadu?
Follow the steps below to apply for a new RC in Tamil Nadu.
- Visit the Parivahan Sewa website
- Fill and submit 'Form 20' for new vehicle registration
- Attach the required documents (add Form 34 if the vehicle is under hire purchase, lease or hypothecation)
- Pay the applicable registration fee, one-time road tax, MCD parking fee and other charges
- Produce the vehicle at the zonal office for inspection
- In the case of business transport vehicle(s), provide the necessary fitness certificate and other documentation
- Document verification, fee and tax payment and inspection are required before the Registration Certificate is issued

Documents Required to Apply for an RC for a New Vehicle in Tamil Nadu
To obtain your RC in Tamil Nadu, submit or upload these documents.
- Form 20 application for registration, in duplicate if the vehicle is under hypothecation
- Form 21 sale certificate
- Form 22 initial pollution compliance and roadworthiness certificate issued by the manufacturer
- Form 22A Part II, if the vehicle body was fabricated
- PAN card, GIR, Form 60 or Form 61 of the Income Tax Department
- Valid insurance certificate
- Address proof such as Aadhaar card, passport, electoral roll, LIC policy, government pay slip, ration card or accepted affidavit
- Passport-size photographs, 3 copies
- Lifetime tax payment proof for a non-transport vehicle
- Temporary registration certificate, if any
How to Apply for a Duplicate RC in Tamil Nadu?
If the RCs are lost or stolen, it is mandatory to file an FIR at the nearest police station. You don't have to file an FIR if your RC is damaged.
