Vehicle Registration Services

RTO in Jammu and Kashmir offers the following vehicle-registration-related services:

Driving Licence-related Services

Transport Permits

Commercial and transport vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir need valid permits, including a state permit, a national permit, and an All India Tourist Permit to operate in the state. Section 66 of the Motor Vehicles Act states that a transport vehicle cannot be used in a public place unless permitted by a valid permit.

Vehicle Registration Process in Jammu and Kashmir

You must apply for vehicle registration at the Jammu and Kashmir RTO within 7 days of vehicle delivery, excluding the travel time, using the steps given below.

  1. Ensure that you collect the Form 21 (sales certificate) and Form 22 (roadworthiness certificate) from the dealer.

  2. Fill Form 20 for vehicle registration.

  3. Keep insurance, address proof, PAN or Form 60 and temporary registration details ready.

  4. Visit the relevant RTO, based on your address

  5. Pay the registration fee and road tax.

  6. Present the vehicle for inspection if the RTO asks.

  7. After verification, the RTO issues the registration number and RC.

Role of RTO in Vehicle Insurance in Jammu and Kashmir
