Role of RTO in Vehicle Insurance in Jammu and Kashmir
The RTO records help insurers identify the registered owner, vehicle class, registration number, RTO location, and RC status. Third-party insurance of the vehicle is mandatory under section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act. When a used vehicle is sold, the RC transfer and insurance update should be done. If RC and policy details do not match, it can complicate the claim-handling process.
