Role of RTO in Vehicle Insurance in Meghalaya
Insurance companies check 'RTO records' to confirm that a vehicle has a valid registration. These records also help them check the registration location and the RTO linked to the vehicle. When a vehicle is sold or ownership changes, the RTO updates the ownership details. This helps the new owner get the right 'insurance policy' without confusion. RTOs also ensure that vehicles comply with the rules and regulations laid down under the 'Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.' Under this act, all vehicles must have valid third-party insurance. The RTO linked to the vehicle can also affect the insurance premium. Vehicles registered in city areas may have higher premiums because accident risk is usually higher there.
